Mega-Churches: Untaxed Businesses

The pastors drive expensive cars, fly private jets, mega infrastructures built, and yet they give back nothing! I feel strongly that this is unfair. Why does government allow this ?

I think this is based on the centuries-old Western tradition that the Church is sacred property and not subject to the king or civil government. Studying the relationship between church and government in Europe throughout the past thousand years may provide insight though I doubt this is what you want. I have heard your resentment expressed by many former Christians who see pastors and other church leaders fleece the flock and grow fat while there are no taxes for lavish church buildings and properties.

The only solution I can think of is to get the law changed. I’m not sure how to accomplish that on a technical level but I’m fairly sure that on a human social level it will be infinitely more difficult. Yet I can see it happening at some point in the future if enough people fight for it, using the right methods.
